SPEDup reaches you in three ways. Here is exactly what each one is for, and how to stop any of them.
| Channel | Used for |
|---|---|
| Text message | Admin support alerts, and two factor sign in codes |
| Push notification | Admin support alerts |
| The weekly strategy email, password resets |
Text messages
SPEDup sends text messages for two purposes only. Both are transactional. There is no marketing SMS, ever.
1. Admin support alerts
When a teacher at your school taps the support button and you are on their response team, you get a text with the student, the classroom, and what is happening.
How you end up receiving these: you added a phone number and agreed to the disclosure during setup, and a colleague added you to their response team.
How to stop them:
- Reply STOP to any message
- Ask the teacher to remove you from their response team
- Remove your phone number in Settings, Edit Profile
2. Two factor sign in codes
If you turn on two factor authentication, SPEDup texts you a code each time you sign in.
This is off by default. You turn it on yourself in Settings, Two-Factor Authentication, and you need a verified phone number first.
How to stop them: turn the switch off.
Keywords
| Reply | Effect |
|---|---|
| STOP, STOPALL, CANCEL, END, QUIT, UNSUBSCRIBE | Opt out of all messages |
| HELP, INFO | Get help, including our support email |
Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.
Your phone number
Adding a phone number is optional and skippable at every point. Nothing about SPEDup stops working without one, except two factor authentication and support alerts.
Your phone number and SMS opt in data are not shared with anyone for marketing purposes. Not with any third party, not for any reason.
Full details are in our privacy policy and terms of service. The full opt in disclosure is also published at spedupeducation.com/sms-consent.
Push notifications
Push notifications go to the mobile app and are used for admin support alerts. Tapping one takes you straight into the alert, where you can acknowledge and resolve it.
Turning them on: Settings, then the Notifications row. It shows Enabled in green once permission is granted.
If you already denied the permission, the app cannot ask again. Allow notifications for SPEDup in your phone's own settings.
Turn these on if you are on anyone's response team. A support request that only arrives as a text you see forty minutes later is not much use to the person who sent it.
The weekly strategy email arrives Friday afternoons if you documented that week. Turn it off in Settings, Edit Profile, or use the unsubscribe link in any of them. See The weekly strategy email.
Password reset emails are sent when you request a reset. If you sign in with ClassLink, SPEDup does not hold your password, so reset it through your district instead.
If you stopped receiving something
No more support alert texts. Somebody replied STOP at some point, or you were removed from the response team. Check with the teacher whose team you were on. STOP is honored permanently until you opt back in.
No push notifications. Check the Notifications row in Settings, then check your phone's notification settings for SPEDup.
No two factor code at sign in. Confirm the number on your account is current, and confirm you did not reply STOP to an earlier message.
No weekly email. You either did not document that week, or the switch is off in Edit Profile, or you clicked unsubscribe.
