SPEDup is behavior documentation for school teams. You record what happened, and SPEDup turns those records into charts and summaries you can actually use: for a parent conference, a team meeting, a referral, an IEP, an FBA, or just to work out what is driving a pattern in your room.
Who it is for
Any teacher or staff member who documents behavior. You do not need to be a special education teacher, and the students you document do not need to be on an IEP.
The name comes from where the product started, and it is a fair question. Today SPEDup is used by general education teachers, special education teachers, behavior specialists, counselors, interventionists, paraprofessionals, and administrators. If you are writing down what happened so somebody can act on it later, this is built for you.
Special education teams get some things aimed squarely at them, like the ABC form and the data summaries that go into an IEP file. None of it is gated. Every feature described in these guides is available to every teacher at a school using SPEDup.
Two apps
They share the same data, so anything you record in one shows up in the other right away.
The mobile app
This is where documentation happens. It runs on iPhone and Android.
Use it to:
- Write an ABC report when an incident happens
- Write an intervention report for a quick support visit or redirection
- Send a request for admin support and have your response team notified by text and push
- Look up a student, a classroom, or a staff member
- See behavior patterns for a student and share a PDF
The mobile app is built for the moment something is happening. Reports auto save as you go, the end time tracks itself while the incident is still unfolding, and everything works with no signal. If you lose connection in the gym or on the bus loop, the report saves to your phone and uploads itself when you are back in range.
The admin dashboard
This is where review and analysis happen. It runs in a web browser on a computer or tablet.
Use it to:
- See how documentation is going across your classroom, building, or district
- Read any report in full
- Generate a data summary for a student over a date range, with charts
- Manage students, classrooms, staff, schools, and districts
- Export a PDF for a meeting or a file
You can also write your own documentation from the dashboard side of the house, but most teachers find the mobile app faster for that.

What SPEDup does not do
It does not replace your IEP system, your SIS, or your incident reporting to the state. It is the behavioral data layer that sits underneath those. Nothing you enter in SPEDup is submitted anywhere on your behalf.
It also does not decide who counts. If a student in your room has behavior worth writing down, you can document it, whether or not they have a plan on file.
